India and Brazil signed an agreement in 2006 on cooperation in sports. Brazil, which wants the status of a cricket playing nation, became a member of the International Cricket Council in 2002. Information and Broadcasting Minister Priyaranjan Dasmunsi, who is president of the India Football Federation, has been pushing for seeking professional and highly qualified football trainers from Brazil. “Football in this part of the world is highly professional and coaches here charge a lot. But something will be worked out shortly. In the meantime, the BCCI has agreed to send a coach,” said Mr. Puri.

Depuis octobre, non seulement l'Inde n'exporte plus mais risque de devenir importatrice. Premières victimes, les pays du golfe Persique, où jusqu'à 80 % de la population est immigrée d'origine indienne ou pakistanaise. Ces immigrés se sont trouvés privés de riz en quelques jours. Début octobre, le riz a disparu des restaurants indiens, ainsi que des rayonnages des commerces. Les approvisionnements ont fini par reprendre mais plus chers. D'où les violences qui ont éclaté et qui ne se sont pas apaisées depuis dans les Émirats arables unis.
